Aram founded MasayaCo with Michael Terry after serving in the Peace Corps in Nicaragua, where he witnessed the environmental impact of unsustainable forestry. Their first focus was restoring deforested cattle land through reforestation, proving that forests could thrive when supported by a sustainable economic model. Today, the company's teak furniture helps sustain these reforestation efforts, which have grown to more than 1.3 million trees.

After completing his Peace Corps assignment in Nicaragua, Aram witnessed the harmful effects of unsustainable forestry practices and became determined to build a socially and environmentally sustainable brand. Together with Michael Terry, he founded MasayaCo. During the company’s early years, their efforts focused on restoring deforested cattle land through reforestation. Aram realized that forests could be expanded more effectively when they were supported by a sustainable economic model.
Today, the company’s teak furniture helps sustain all of its forest reserves in Nicaragua. After establishing these forests, MasayaCo founded its manufacturing headquarters in Managua, where it began creating furniture designed to continuously capture carbon in everyday life. In 2014, the company partnered with American artist Justin Terry and Nicaraguan designer Abril Zepeda to bring a distinctive artistic vision to its growing furniture collection. Inspired by the artisanal traditions of Masaya and the rich culture and natural beauty of Nicaragua, the woven collection was born. Every design is crafted from renewable solid wood grown through the company’s own reforestation projects. With more than 1.3 million trees planted to date, MasayaCo continues to transform the way furniture is made.
